Idaho provides many excellent opportunities for education. Idaho education is provided by approximately 64 percent of the state’s general fund. Roughly 94 percent of school age children attend public schools in Idaho.
Many colleges and universities are scattered throughout the Gem State. Boise State University, located in Boise, is the state’s largest university. It boasts over 200 academic programs and hosts over 18,000 students. Idaho State University (ISU), in Pocatello, is a public doctoral/research-intensive university, enrolling nearly 17,000 students and comprised of additional centers in Idaho Falls, Twin Falls and Boise. The University of Idaho (UI), in Moscow, Idaho, enrolls nearly 12,000 students. The UI prides itself on being a doctoral-research extensive land-grant institution, with over 140 undergraduate degree programs.
Prominent community colleges in Idaho include the Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston; the North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene; and the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls.
