Principal IT Demand Management Engineer

Summary:

The Principal Demand Manager is responsible for improving, implementing, and driving efficient and effective IT demand management processes in support of business strategy and objectives. In collaboration with leaders and stakeholders from the IT division and the business organizations within Seagen, the Principal Demand Manager will ensure IT resources are allocated to the right initiatives and priorities. He/she is responsible for supporting and continuously improving an IT resource capacity management framework; IT resource allocation; IT demand and utilization and reporting tools; and regular reporting. The position requires significant interaction with cross-functional departments within Seagen, collaboration across IT teams, and excellent communication and relationship skills to build and manage strong problem management, partnerships, positive experiences at senior leadership levels.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Define and apply high-level models for forecasting projects’ resource needs
  • Create and develop demand plans based on business trends and demand patterns
  • Manage a periodic planning cycle to include new and/or changed demand
  • Coordination of technology project assignments across IT’s workforce assignments
  • Guides and improves approaches to ensure resources are allocated to align with strategic priorities
  • Ensure cross-project resource dependencies, are identified, tracked, and resolved
  • Continuous improvements of resource allocation estimates based on historic data and refinement
  • Create and facilitate an escalation mechanism related to IT demand
  • Analyze and troubleshoot demand related issues in a timely and accurate manner
  • Support the financial processes to assess budget and affordability of resources
  • Develop and continuously improve training materials on capacity and demand management
  • Identify demand forecast risks and develop effective mitigation plans
  • Participate in the creation of Demand Management policies, standards, baseline operations, guidelines, processes, and procedures
  • Work with internal and external program/project managers to complete projects on time and lead/participate in projects to provide guidance and/or training, where appropriate
  • Coordinate and direct process improvement to attain operational maturity resulting in increased value to business operations
  • Provide mentoring to junior members of the team

Required Qualifications:

  • 10-15+ years’ experience; 8+ years in IT project/portfolio management/program/demand experience; 4+ years in demand/capacity/utilization related experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer- or business-related discipline or equivalent job experience required
  • Experience applying resource capacity models that align to the maturity level of the organization to define demand and utilization
  • Proven ability to design and implement effective systems and methodologies for tracking progress, opportunities, risks, and budgets
  • Strong communication skills (including presentation skills) with success in influencing all levels cross-functionally
  • Proven ability to collaborate and demonstrate relationship building skills
  • Proven ability to function effectively across a matrixed organization with multiple stakeholders and constituents
  • Demonstrated ability to focus a team to achieve goals
  • Demonstrable experience in synthesizing large volumes of information and producing high-quality analysis to support senior management level decisions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management Professional certifications preferred
  • Six Sigma certification preferred
  • Certified Scrum Master certification preferred
