Lundbeck Seattle BioPharmaceuticals (Lu-SBP), located in Bothell, Washington, is the Process Development Center of Excellence for Biologics within the global Lundbeck CMC organization. Since integrating into Lundbeck in October 2019, Lu-SBP has supported commercial launch of Lundbeck’s first biologic product (Vyepti) and advancement of a growing biologics pipeline in collaboration with our Copenhagen-based Late-Stage Development and Production groups. The Lu-SBP team leads and supports the development of new product candidates from cell line development through commercial validation of Drug Substance and Drug Product manufacturing processes. SUMMARY

This position has primary responsibility for managing Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) for Lundbeck Seattle, and providing support and guidance to other US Lundbeck sites. Responsible for recognizing and assessing hazards in the workplace and recommending appropriate corrective measures. Works with all levels of personnel at multiple sites and Corporate EHS to ensure compliance with applicable regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT etc.) and implementation of best practices. Promotes awareness on accident prevention and protecting the work environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead the EHS functional area and ensure 100% compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
  • Drive improvements in site EHS culture, awareness, and accountability
  • Oversee EHS compliance assurance programs, processes, perform or direct site audits, and lead efforts with management team to implement corrective actions
  • Conduct incident/accident investigations and develop corrective and preventative action plans using the Root Cause Analysis techniques
  • Ensure full regulatory environmental compliance by providing research and support to ensure site processes and technical projects meet state and federal requirements, in partnership with Facilities Manager and/or Safety Committee
  • Assist in establishing job safety analysis, emergency preparedness and response, chemical management, chemical inventory list, safety data sheets, environmental impact analysis, and health risk analysis, including, but not limited to maintaining all EHS site related licenses (i.e. wastewater, etc.)
  • Engage in the evaluation of equipment design, administrative procedures, and training requirements to establish best practices supporting a safe work environment, including ergonomics.
  • Collaborate on and lead planning, designing and implementation of environmental strategies and procedures related to reducing waste, recycling and energy/natural resource conservation
  • Participate in carrier management processes, such as vendor selection, qualification, or performance evaluation as required
  • Establish and/or monitor specific supply chain-based performance metrics in relation to EHS
  • Responsible for handling all LuSBP workers comp claims in alignment with the company’s participation in a Retrospective Rating program, in addition to escalating any relevant issues to Human Resources. Provide advice and guidance to other US Lu sites for their Workers Compensation claims.
  • Daily inspection of company premises to ensure safety and security procedures are in place and in compliance
  • Develop, maintain and deliver Site Safety training,
  • Maintain relevant documentation and compliance calendar including routine reporting, audits, and permit renewals, including the OSHA log process at other US Lu sites
  • Responsible for defining, collecting and managing EHS site metrics

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS

  • Accredited Bachelors’ degree and 8 years’ relevant EHS experience or combination of education and relevant EHS experience totaling 11 years
  • Previous experience in an FDA regulated environment and/or experience in the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Medical Device industry
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and be capable of building relationships across functions and at all levels of the company
  • Requires organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to climb ladders and operate equipment needed to inspect facilities
  • Maintain high customer service attributes

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental/Safety Engineering, Physical Science/Engineering
  • Knowledge/experience in CA EHS compliance for the pharmaceutical industry
