Position Summary:
Seagen is seeking a medical technologist with problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, versatile laboratory skills, and self-motivation to join its team of nonclinical scientists. You will be part of a vibrant and experienced group in a company dedicated to finding cures for cancer.
You will be expected to contribute significantly to expand the capabilities of the laboratories in the department of Nonclinical Sciences. You will generate and review data, troubleshoot instruments, and implement new assays. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills in order to interact with colleagues to deliver excellent data and analysis, advancing potential cures for cancer. The candidate will also be expected to expand his/her knowledge to effectively initiate and participate in investigative toxicology research in allied laboratories, and to train other staff in basic clinical pathology procedures.
This medical technologist will be involved with projects that include discovery research, translational science, and investigative studies.
Principal Responsibilities
- Processing and analyzing research samples (primarily hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, and cytology)
- Assuring the quality of laboratory results by managing quality control and instrument maintenance
- Adapting, developing, and validating new assays on existing and novel platforms
- Investigating novel mechanisms of toxicity by designing and conducting experiments in a collaborative environment
- Contributing cross-functionally by training and participating in research conducted in affiliated laboratories
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field
- Medical Technologist certification: MLS (ASCP) (also called MT or CLS)
- Skilled at hematology, cytology, chemistry, urinalysis, and coagulation assays
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting automated hematology and clinical chemistry instrumentation
- Proficiency in utilization of computerized data collection systems (e.g. a LIMS or toxicology database) and office and scientific computer programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad, Spotfire, etc)
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, a proactive attitude, and innovative and interdisciplinary thinking towards accomplishing goals and solving issues
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to coordinate complex studies across several groups
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with developing and running novel assays on various platforms
- 4-7 years' experience in medical technology (university, hospital or industry); experience in a research setting is also preferred
