Senior Manager, Centralized Biorepository

Description

Summary:

The principal objective of the Senior Manager, Centralized Biorepository, is to develop and lead a tissue-based program that will allow Seagen scientists to access quality clinical and nonclinical biological samples and metadata efficiently. This position requires a highly motivated individual who will support technical systems and data management. The successful candidate will optimize the biorepository’s operations, day-to-day communication, and sharing between functional teams to lead tissue acquisition and management to meet the needs of Seagen’s growing portfolio. The candidate is expected to drive the identification, formulation, and implementation of an ongoing tissue acquisition and archiving process and database system that will deliver tangible measurable value in terms of development of first-class in-house biorepository. Working collaboratively, independently, and cross-functionally to coordinate, influence, and manage biorepository samples and requests, this position will streamline access to quality tissue samples, reducing redundant operating costs, and increasing collaboration across departments.

The candidate must be able to build and maintain strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and external vendors, work closely with project managers, and cross-functional support teams to accomplish agreed upon objectives. The role will include identification, implementation, and management of a laboratory management information system (LIMS). This position will report directly to a Director, Pathology.

Principal Responsibilities:

By executing the following duties, the Senior Manager, Centralized Biorepository will be central to the successful support all stages of research and clinical programs and services and Seagen’s growing portfolio in an evolving competitive, regulatory, and compliance landscape.

LIMS System Management

  • Provide subject matter expertise in designing, testing and implementing a validated LIMS system
  • Coordinate with IT and other organizational personnel to assure a sustainable, functional software that meets growing company requirements
  • Drive the adoption of biorepository software at Seagen by gathering requirements, demonstrating capabilities, leading onboarding efforts, and providing continued support
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and primary support contact for end-users needing to navigate the biorepository software
  • Audit the accuracy of subject, sample, location, and other data across software systems for quality assurance. Investigate and correct data inconsistencies as needed

Project Management

  • Identify vendors and manage vendor relationships to benefit Seagen’s access to tissues. Build and leverage relationships and networks to improve and enhance vendor dynamics; proactively identifying opportunities and removing obstacles to drive sample procurement
  • Coordinate project teams by serving as a subject matter expert, establishing executable tasks, developing milestones, and ensuring completion against mutually agreed upon deadlines.
  • Work with other subject matter experts to define/assess legacy samples in storage across company departments
  • Identify opportunities proactively to improve workflows and support ad hoc process improvement initiatives related to the biorepository
  • Facilitate the identification, management, and communication of key program risks and their associated mitigation and contingency plans
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with project leadership, subject matter experts, and key stakeholders
  • Demonstrate a strong customer service focus with a commitment to teamwork and self-initiative
  • Seek change & value innovation, foster valuable change, showcasing an entrepreneurial spirit with “can do” attitude
  • Demonstrate advanced planning and organization skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and to quickly adapt to changing priorities
  • Demonstrate excellent analytical and assessment skills
  • Ensure program approved resources are operationalized in line with guidance and inventory is aligned across all users

Qualifications:

  • Seven years or more experience with coordinating clinical samples in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or research setting, including experience with regulated samples, chain of custody, traceability, and other pertinent requirements
  • Demonstrated experience and competence with sample management systems, MS Office literacy required
  • Prior experience with LIMS database systems required
  • A proactive and strategic thinker, with strong facilitation, problem-solving, and issue resolution skills
  • Experience with legal and regulatory landscape concerning biorepositories, CLIA laboratories, and Protection of Human Subjects Ability to review and interpret Clinical Research Protocols
  • Understanding of Biorepository and CLIA lab regulations
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Effective time management, ability to keep track of tasks amid shifting priorities
  • Ability to work under pressure with short deadlines
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills with the proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence without authority

Education

  • Education: B.A./B.S. degree or higher with educational training in a field related to the health sciences
