Seagen

Scientist – Mechanistic PK/PD

Translational Sciences - Bothell, Washington

Description

Summary

The drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) group at Seagen is seeking a highly motivated leader to support nonclinical development of large molecule drug candidates.

The DMPK group is committed to the development of safe and effective therapeutics by characterizing the absorption, distribution, metabolism, elimination and pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic relationships of drug candidates in nonclinical species. DMPK collaborates with colleagues across Seagen (early discovery, toxicology, clinical pharmacology, regulatory, etc.) to inform lead selection, conduct nonclinical development studies, and contribute to regulatory filings.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanistic studies with biophysical, computational, cell-based, mathematical modeling and in vivo tools to understand the properties of drug candidates that ultimately drive pharmacokinetics, distribution, efficacy, and safety
  • Work closely with early discovery teams (medicinal chemistry, protein sciences, target validation, etc.) and develop experimental and modeling strategies to influence critical decisions in early-stage development including lead selection
  • Represent DMPK in cross-functional teams to provide strategy for nonclinical development of lead candidates. This includes working closely with nonclinical scientists to collaborate on experimental design and interpretation of data to guide project direction and key decisions
  • Present research at group meetings and department-wide forums

Qualifications:

  • Strong experience with biophysical characterization of proteins (e.g. secondary/tertiary structure, charge, hydrophobicity, conformational/colloidal stability)
  • Strong experience in biophysical and cell-based analytical methods to characterize receptor-ligand interactions, endocytosis, trafficking, etc. (e.g. SPR, BLI, flow cytometry)
  • Background in mathematical modeling & simulation of kinetic processes. Experience with mechanistic PK-PD models (e.g. Matlab, R, Phoenix WinNonlin, Berkeley Madonna) is preferred but not required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in biophysics, biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, bioengineering, chemical engineering or related discipline with 0-2 years industry experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the capacity to thrive in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment
